INFORMATION SECURITY ALERT
Fraudulent Frontier Bank Sweepstakes Callers
March 24, 2009
Frontier Bank has received reports of people being contacted by phone regarding winning a sweepstakes. The caller is claiming to be from Frontier Bank. The caller gives the targeted victim a phone number to call back. When called, it is answered "Frontier Bank" and the victims are asked for a credit card number.
Frontier Bank is not sponsoring or involved in any sweepstakes. The sweepstakes calls are fraudulent and the caller is attempting to trick people into disclosing personal information, in particular their credit card number. The fraudulent Frontier calls are originating from Canada. These reports have been coming in from various states, particularly Texas and Arizona.
Many email (phishing) and phone (vishing) scams are in circulation. For more information on telephone scams check out the FTC website http://www.ftc.gov/phonefraud.
Anyone divulging their credit card number to this fraudulent caller may be the victim of fraud. If your credit card number is at risk, report it to your credit card company immediately using the number printed on the back of the card. If you have divulged other personal information, you may also be the victim of identity theft.
Victims of fraud or identity theft may place a fraud alert or credit freeze on their credit file by calling any one of the three major credit reporting companies.
Frontier Bank takes your security and privacy very seriously. For more information on identity theft and fraud, please refer to Reporting Fraud or access the FDIC's website at http://www.fdic.gov/consumers/theft/index.html.
